I ♥ junque.

I headed back to the Home of The Bucket this weekend, Point Pleasant, New Jersey's own little Antique Row. I concentrated this week's hunt to one store on Arnold Avenue, a multi-dealer extravaganza located in the old five and dime building.

I went in with this...

...and came out with this trio of treasures...

...and this:

Change!

Let's have a closer look.

Since most booths inside look like this:

It's amazing I left with my head still screwed on straight, much less anything to show for my efforts. But I found the set of six matching silver knives for $4. I love how substantial they are, and the chunky, detailed handles (which I will polish for sure):

The two milk glass vases are both from dealer "NYC" -- seller of the now famous ice bucket. The footed vessel was another steal:

This one also has markings on the bottom: "E.O. Brody, M4200, Cleveland, Ohio." I know nothing about milk glass but the Internets sure do:

Brody Glass was first produced for The E.O.Brody Company which was founded in 1958 in Cleveland, Ohio, by Ernest Oscar Brody. Mr Brody was known as EO in the florists' trade. His innovative idea was to sell utility glass floral containers exclusively to florists and to market them through wholesale florists who in turn would sell to retail florists. Initially he started the company with only four flower vases/containers in his portfolio. These were made by US glass manufacturers using EO's own molds marked with the company name.

I now know the piece is older than 1971 since the company apparently moved from Cleveland that year, but for a buck -- who really cares! Since I had the model number I was able to find a few for sale online, and I think I did OK. At the very least I've found a couple of vases for my friend Spence's fabulous floral creations.

Diane at A Picture is Worth a 1,000 Words hosts 2nd Time Around Tuesdays, so I think I'll go have a look-see at other bloggers' fancy cast-offs-turned-treasures. I love poking my nose around other people's trash, after all!

Love the vases. I started collecting milkglass too after I saw how cheap it is! Makes a great contrast on a shelf or with colorful flowers!

Laura,

You made a killing! Don't you wish you could sneak your laptop in, just to see what you are getting? Since the owners of the booths are seldom available and the store's owner "knows nothing", you usually are clueless. In your case, you couldn't lose so it must have been nice to find that your vases were not just run of the mill. I love that. :-)

Any idea what the knives are fetching?? I love old silverware, the more mix-matched the better! Think of all the people's homes they have been in~history!

Can I tag along next time??

xoxo

Laura, you really scored with this! Love the knives, and I'm holding my breath about the bucket and the polish or non polish. LOL! I promise not to comment. ;-)

Great price on that milk glass. You did well, my dear, very well, indeed. I wish you were here to go with me to one particular antique mall where I know you would go wild. It has some really neat things for good prices. I can't come out of there without something in tow. Maybe that's why I need a warehouse. ;-)

I did pillows today, most of which were thrifted and/or gifts and most of which were in Shorehouse South. ;-)

XO,

Sheila... who thinks you find some cool things! :-)

Again, you did good Laura! Those are pretty vases, and beautiful antique knives.

I never have any luck with treasure hunting -- the few Thrift stores near me always want top dollar no matter what the object is, probably because they pay so much rent.

Hi Laura,
You did great! Love the silver knives and the milkglass.

I am coming up on Sunday, and want to go to the flea market near the Museum of Natural History.

Ever been to that one?

Like your blog! My Mother has several milk glass items she bought a long time ago, and they still decorate her home. When I was a kid I didn't think much of them, but as an adult, they've grown on me.

Hello! Thank you for visiting my page and you are right that I have a very good Goodwill stores here in Germany. They sell almost anything for nothing. It kills me that a lot of their stuff getting ended up in the dumpster if they don't get sold. I got my pieces for 75% off and they were about to get thrown away that week.

I love your findings. Silver knives are great and for that price, why not? :-)

Have a nice day!

You know that I am laughing. Something about brilliant minds thinking alike...I was also there this past weekend. There is a dealer who keeps her things in the front window, her name is Tess, and I am addicted to her stuff. She has a very feminine, shabby look about her booth. Also, the one in the back corner with all the white...how cool is that? I love milk glass...It goes with everything and looks lovely with spring flowers. The silver was a great find.

Oh, I love going to antique stores like the one you showed. Sadly, I haven't been to one in almost 2 years, but they are SO MUCH FUN!! I like the fact that not everything is expensive--which means I can afford it. Blessings~
