...and I buy tchotchke.
I promised no more junque. But this little hand just waved at we. "Hello, pretty girl. You look like you could use a pick-me-up. So why don't you just pick me up?"
And at fifty cents, she may make the "best of" list for 2011 if she plays her (pun alert) hand right.
Now this one I can't explain. I'm not a sampler kind of girl, but I live in a friendly house by the side of the road. Maybe that's all I need to make questionable decisions.
Many times I find the story behind the object d'art more fascinating than the object itself. Or at least the story I make up. When I picked this one up in all her duct-taped, vintage papered glory, I knew there were plenty of good stories this piece could help me tell.
Incidentally one of the Valentines in my last post is signed "Estella" so you can only imagine the stories I'm making up!
The sampler could make a cute housewarming gift for the right person (and at only $7 I don't feel terrible about this purchase). I've got some nerve considering another piece for myself given the piles of unhung art piling up around here.

Oooh... the hand is so cool! I love the art by Estelle. Hmmm.... do you have powers to reach the other side? Because I'm thinking Estelle is trying to send you love and trying to reach out to you. Smile... Big hugs my friend! xo
I find the hand fascinating - - - especially the gold creases on the palm side of the fingers. But, what is that hand doing stealing money out of the offering plate???
Estelle seems like a very interesting soul. I think you should keep her around.
The hand is great, and you found the perfect spot for it!
Lots of charm in this post. I LOVE the little picture sitting on the floor 8 pictures down the post.
The sampler was very charming. and Estellle, sigh....
I bet you were creeped out when you saw the name Estella for the second time...maybe she knows Heather's ghost Anna....
Get those pictures hung...I love to hang things...I have no wall space left at all...I found myself theother day hanging a picture off of the mantel....
Loving that sampler, just lovely x
When I started reading, I thought, "What is she going to do with that hand?!?"
Then I laughed out loud.
Can't wait to see the finished wall.
Very interesting objects d'art, Laura! The cross stitch by Estrella is will be such a conversation piece when you hang it ..I think it's perfect for your shorehouse :)
I have to tell you I have a thing for hands... like eyes are the windows to your soul... hands show the love and work an artist puts in their creations...
Laura,
Thank God I am not the only one with a hand. (Okay, okay, I have three. Why? I have no idea.)
I like the embroidered sampler. My Grammy was always embroidering and I know the time and effort that goes into making them.
Does your story include a brute named Stanly yelling: Es tella!
I have prints on a bed in one of the spare rooms. It's a good thing we haven't had a lot of company. They've been waiting to transition for months!
Your Friend,
Deborah
I would have bought the hand too...for my jewelry booth...and I really have a 'thing' for vintage needlework!
Love your interesting stories!
...at least you have a hand and an eye for scouting great treasures with wit and whimsy.
