The roast is in the oven.

And by roast I mean this:

Now, now...I just saw you roll your eyes.

For the first time in nearly 30 years as a vegetarian I'm trying a Tofurkey roast. Not sure how this will go, but I marinated it in vegetable broth, orange juice, sage, rosemary and sea salt. So if nothing else, I can drink the baste.

I actually became a vegetarian because I was watching the news with my mom and there was a story on turkeys. I made the connection, didn't eat the turkey the next day, and never ate meat again.

I guess you could say...I quit cold turkey. Ba-da-dum.

We're sending our warmest wishes from the shorehouse to your house this Thanksgiving (Mike wanted to get in on this, too, now that he knows he's a blog superstar). I am thankful for many things, and if you're a visitor to this here blog I am thankful you take time out of your day to spend some time with little ol' me.

I hope that the Shorehouse crew had a marvelous Thanksgiving. In your former life, you would have loved the buffet we had at the Casa Monica... it was DIVINE. I eat like a vegetarian for the most part (it's just that I hate veggies, LOL), but I did have turkey today! I thought of you. The hotel is from the Victorian era and is stunning. I took pics. We sat next to a young couple and had a great visit with them. SO it was a fun day. I missed our friends and family, but Mr. Magpie and I thoroughly enjoyed our date. :-)

Love to you and the crew...

XO,

Sheila :-)

You AND your blog are one of my "faves" and I still love you even though I ADORE meat myself.

Real meat - - - no tofurkey or toroast or tochicken or tosteaks for moi!

I think I accidentally bit into a piece of tofu one time - - - it was not memorable.

Hope your day was very very blessed and happy, even if it was turkeyless!!!

You know, I rarely eat meat, and neither do my boys. How did your turkey turn out?
Oh, and the cannolis! Yum! And those black and whites! Wow!
Happy late Thanksgiving to you-I was very unplugged last week-it was fun catching up this morning!

How was it Laura? Is Mike a vegetarian too?

I am always impressed by the resolve not to eat animals, and I've tried in the past but sadly I can't stick with it forever.

Love that story! We've had the Tofurkey without the enhancements, & it was pretty darn good! Sadly though, I do enjoy saying the word Tofurkey as much as I enjoy saying Turducken.
