Time flies.

How can the summer be over? It seems like just yesterday I was planting sunflower seeds in the not-quite-yet frost-free ground.

This summer wasn't the best, if I'm honest. But I'm looking forward to a festive fall, and spending a little more time on this little neglected blog.

So far the fall is off to a brilliant start. Stretches of empty beaches and beautiful weather...

...and seashells untouched by the little hands that are now safely tucked back into their school desks.

All of the early summer rains (I thought it would never end!) are making for streetscapes dotted with flowers that are still blooming.

And there is still plenty to do at the shore...particularly over these next few weeks. On Saturday I popped over to the wonderful Allaire Historical Village for their fall flea market. I stopped, looked and listened, just like the sign told me to.

I picked up a small bag of vintage sugar sacks and quilt squares from my local linen connection (jeez...when I write it like that, it sounds like I need an intervention! "I copped a fix from my local connection..."), and a small, turquoise chipped-up (rustic!) McCoy vase. Both of which I didn't photograph (some blog poster I am). But I did manage to take a photo of the all-rubber duckies table:

Speaking of photos, there's a fabulous exhibit on the Asbury Park Boardwalk through September 27 if you're in the area. "Be True" offers 30-somewhat photos of Bruce (no last names necessary in this part of town) taken by renowned lensman Danny Clinch. This candid photo collection is an amazing glimpse into Bruce's world this past decade -- from rehearsal sessions at the Asbury Park Convention Hall, to behind-the-scenes at the Seeger Sessions recordings at Bruce's modest looking (though I'm sure it's not!) Colts Neck, NJ, horse ranch. If you are a fan of photography or Bruce, you may want to stop by. If you are a fan of both, get in the car right now.

And speaking of Bruce, happy 60th birthday boss! Wow...talk about time flying.

Aww, love the rubber duckies. I saw in a town once they had a rubber duckie race in a stream for a fundraiser, how fun! You'd have to buy the whole table.

Summer's end is always sad to me. As much as I love fall, I so miss summertime and they freedom and free "spiritness" that comes with it.

Great pics!

And really is the Boss 60? How can it be? I was a HUGE stringsteen fan . Born in the USA album could be an anthem for my youth~

HUgs my friend!

I like the rubber duckies. I thought you had a picture from an arcade at first!! Now, will you be closing up the shorehouse?

I think I have worn myself out loving Bruce! lol!! That was so 80's and when I thought I would be marrying him (wow, I could have lived on a ranch and invited you over!). Now my daughter get's his concert tickets while I sit at home in my rocking chair. Hey, wait, the guy has more than a decade on me!!

Hope you are doing well, Laura!

xoxo

Hi Laura!

Happy Autumn!

The thing I miss about summer are the longer hours of sunlight. I hate when it gets dark at 5PM

Bruce and my husband are the same age and still rock n rollin' lol

i'm so bummed to be missing that exhibit - and the whole early fall at the shore, for that matter. this is my favorite time of year - the crisp air, the warm water & the empty streets... perfection!

Hi Miss Laura :)

I have had a heck of a time keeping up with blogging, so like you I'm hoping for a restful Fall that leaves more time for it. Oh and no more flu bugs... yeah, that would be nice ;)

Bruce is 60? At least someone is older than me LOL

xo,

Is he 60? Is that even possible?

Enjoy the fall - a quiet beach, filled with seashells, and touched by the sun is a perfect time to remember those you love - those here and those who have left us for now....

Hi Laura, Summer's end is always a little bittersweet for me. I do love fall here in NC though. The change in weather is usually slow and gentle. Hope it's a sweet season in NJ this year.

Summer is so done. Hard to believe but true. Guess I've got to embrace that fact and get happy.

Oh, I remember this feeling every summer because we would always stay until a week after Labor Day. So bittersweet..the ghosts of the summer crowd still faint in the air, etc. Your photos are beautiful and convey that feeling and memory so well.

On another note, you HAVE to participate in my Novemeber challenge!! If I go with what I think I might go with, you'll like it, and forget about it, Pat will LOVE it! :)

As for the Yanks..WHOOHOO! Dear god, please don't let them die in the first round!! What a great season!!!
