This dress has my name all over it.

Literally.

I am totally digging the new "Laura" dress from J. Crew. However, I'm not sure I'd be digging the "hammered silk" after more than 10 minutes wearing it. Sounds like one big wrinkle waiting to happen. Plus it's only online so no chance of testing with a quick romp around the dressing room.

We have a "swanky event" to go to on Saturday, and as is typical I've only shopped for the house and not for Laura. So unless I (a) fashion my bed linens into a retro evening dress of sorts or (b) find something in my size at, say, a yard sale Saturday that is black tie appropriate, clean and ready to wear same night, I'm kind of in a bit of a jam.

I do have fancy black shoes, though. Maybe that will detract from the duvet muumuu I'll be wearing.

too too funny Laura! a nice duvet style dress...you know I was in the same predicament for my party a few weeks ago, I had shoes and that was it. My friend lent me 7 of her dresses, all top designs and like brand new and none of them fit, two days before and I was in serious trouble. Guess where I went, yep Vinnies looking for something else and got my dress for 5 dollars. plain and simple and cut beautifully it fit me like a glove, not really up to the minute fashion tho but once I was there it was just right.

anyway I love that J Crew dress, I'm really digging that style at the moment, I wouldn't even go near silk tho, even without 3 kiddos I am far too sloppy to be wearing something like that

oh yeah and can you believe I found those oars, I was so excited..heehee

Blah..I just went to a wedding over the weekend, and when I went to dress, I discovered I had put on too much weight over the winter to fit in anythimg..and I hadn't been shopping in months. It was desperate! :p The only thing that saved what I eventually managed was, yep, the shoes.

Hi Laura :)

Beautiful dress! I know what you mean though and I hate not being able to try something on for a "big" deal. How about...

Hi ladies!

sarah -- why am I *not* surprised that your fancy dress was from Vinnie's?!?! For a fiver!! That is totally cracking me up! You really are Queen of Vinnies. (Maybe Our Lady of Vinnies is more appropriate? ;-)

muralimanohar – think your SIL could ship that dress to me by Saturday from your latest post? :-) I LOVE IT! I’m hoping my shoes (purchased two years ago right after New Year’s when all of the “fancy night out shoes” go on SERIOUS sale) will get me by!

Rue – do you know…I have a Banana Republic a block from my office and it never once occurred to me to look there? I am a doofus sometimes, I swear. Thanks for the hot tip! :-) There’s a few that aren’t expensive at all – and I want to buy something that I’ll wear again, too.

xo,
Laura @ the shorehouse.

Ha-ha, LAura, you are too cute! I'd be in the same boat. my dress up clothes are non-existent these days. I'm sure you'll land something just in time!

Can I have her hips?

rhoda -- I always come up with *something*. I have a feeling whatever I dig up will be a tale and half...worthy of a blog for sure.

iloveupstate -- I think they're on back order. ;-)

I do love that dress! I used to be that thin, but now... well, I'm not so sure I'd look very nice in it. But I love silk - don't even care if it wrinkles.

Best of luck to you in finding the perfect dress!

I would be scared of the wrinkles too, but such a pretty dress. Reminds me I need a dress for friend's upcoming wedding! Glad you enjoyed the vintage posts - the Mr. Big sign was $250 - if only I had the extra cash!

What I would not give for that dress... and the long skinny legs of that model. :)

You are too funny! That dress is really pretty. Oh, and how have I never heard of e.l.f. cosmetics for a dollar? I am totally checking that out!

oh, could you please, please, fashion your bed linens into a dress? think how the blog world would love it! I admit, i'd really want to see it too!

bailiwick - a romp through my closet turned up a long-neglected dress last night that I thought would be too big. Alas, it fits. :-( May be a winner.

please sir - $250 -- while out of my thrifty range -- sounds pretty good?? I *may* have been tempted at $200 (a couple of my friends call my man Mr. Big b/c he's older than me, LOL).

liz – HEAR, HEAR ! Sigh...

ms. tee - OMG...I can't tell you how much makeup I bought for $20!

courtney - I do have a linen (eBay, natch) duvet cover in the MBR. It's tempting...;-)

Unfortunately you will also not be able to wear a vintage egg basket as the egg basket lady (same one I got the wooden dowels from) wasn't at the flea market today. Sorry!
